Apply to be Part of our Event Crew

Important Information About Working With ACE Crew

The work you will undertake will be at venues, warehouses, parks, shopping centres, retailers, historical buildings and more. We work 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You’ll work in a fast-paced environment, generally in teams, the work is physically demanding but also rewarding. We work on some very cool events, sometimes in unique or special venues, which the public rarely get to see.

Being a labour supplier, the main characteristics we are looking for from all our new recruits are…

- ATTITUDE, a positive, can do, proactive attitude is imperative.

- PUNCTUALITY, arriving on time to jobs is vital. Without you the work to be undertaken cannot progress. We ask that you aim to arrive at each venue 15 minutes early. This gives you time to locate your onsite Crew Chief (Team Leader) or for smaller jobs the Client Contact. It also allows you time to have a stretch and get your body ready for the tasks ahead.

- PRESENTABILITY, while representing ACE Crew you should be neat and tidy. That includes yourself and your uniform provided.

The work we offer is of a contractual nature, some may term this as a zero-hour contract, we prefer not to as there is a negative connotation about this type of contract. For us it is a flexible role. Meaning you can manage your working availability to suit your personal needs. Please note that the more frequently you take time off, the more likely it is that you will fall down the pecking order when it comes to allocating the available work. Should you wish to take time off, the minimum notice period we require is 2 full working days. For example, should you wish to take a Thursday off, we require notification by no later than Monday afternoon before 5PM. This can be done via, email only. The reason we ask for notice of your unavailability is that, unlike some of our competitors we don’t over hire. We want to make your working experience with us a positive one. Let’s be honest we all need to work to pay our bills. If you are not getting enough hours this will make your life difficult and put you in a negative space. We want a happy morale whilst you are representing ACE Crew.

So, let’s get onto the working hours. The minimum booking for a job is 2 hours, this is only offered in London zones 1 & 2, with starting times between the hours of 06:00-21:00. For a 2 hour call you will receive 3 hours pay. Apart from this our minimum call time for a job is 4 hours and this can be as much as 12 hours.

There are additional supplements you can earn, should you have additional skills. These will be for Driving, Operating Plant Machinery, Carpentry work or if you are the Crew Chief.

In addition to this, for any out-of-town work that we do, there is a £10 per hour payment for your travel time.

The last thing to mention is our nighttime supplement. For any jobs starting or finishing between the hours of 23:01 – 05:59, you will receive an additional payment of £10.

The hourly payrate starts at £13.85 per hour. We monitor your progress by liaising with our clients, crew chiefs and senior crew whom you work with. Should the feedback be favourable you can expect a pay review after 3-6 months depending on your performance and the number of hours you have worked. This can be sooner for those who excel in the role. On the reverse side of the coin, for those who receive unfavourable feedback we will inform you of this and allow you the opportunity to improve your performance.

Communication is paramount to our working relationship. As mentioned, we need to know your unavailability so that we can take on work according to the available number of crew we have. Our clients do book in advance whenever possible, however the nature of our industry is that we frequently receive bookings a day or 2 in advance. Last minute bookings are also a regular occurrence, this is when a client requires crew As Soon As Possible. Reasons for this can vary. So, when you’re not working always keep your mobile phone handy.

Sometimes a client may ask you to stay on to work extra hours. This is generally vital to ensuring the build or breakdown of the event is carried out according to schedule. We always ask that you stay should you not have another job to go onto. If you do have another job directly thereafter, please call us to let us know the situation. Once you have completed extra hours, we ask that you send us a text message referencing the job number and the number of extra hours you have worked. (Example- J:12345 +3Hours) We will respond with a confirmation text message. (Example- J:12345 +3Hours OK). It is your responsibility to notify us of the extra hours you have worked so that we can confirm with the client and charge them accordingly. Should you not notify us, they will not be charge for and you will not be paid for the extra hours worked.

The most important part of any job, getting paid! The work you have carried out from the 1st to the 15th of the month is paid at the end of that month. Work carried out from the 16th to the end of the month, is paid the following month on the 15th.

You should diarise all work sent to you. This ensures you don’t miss work that has been sent to you well in advance. You will be required to submit a timesheet for the work you have done. A template for you to complete will be sent to you via email.

Working onsite...

- The Crew Chief is your manager onsite and is responsible for delegating work and ensuring tasks are completed to the client’s specification and satisfaction. Remember the Crew Chief is a wealth of knowledge. If ever you are unsure ask your Crew Chief.

- Your safety on site is your responsibility, if you are asked to do something that you feel is unsafe, speak with your Crew Chief or alternatively contact the office immediately.

- Avoid damage to equipment, vehicles, buildings and yourself as best as possible. If accidents do occur it’s vital that you inform the office at your earliest opportunity. We have insurance for these incidents, so don’t feel that you will be punished.

- The use of drugs and alcohol onsite will not be tolerated. If an accident occurs and you are under the influence, you will be held accountable.

- It is against the law to smoke in public buildings and work vehicles. If you are given a break, ensure that you only use a designated smoking area.

- Do not use your mobile phone when on site for personal reasons. Calls and texts can be responded to when you have a break or have finished working.

Don’t take more than your share. In general, on shorter jobs, you will not be given a break to consume food. On longer jobs you will be given a break to eat.
